Mersiha Husagic was born in 1989 in Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After leaving her homeland during the Bosnian War, she grew up in Germany, where her early fascination with film and visual art took shape. After high school she studied acting at the Drama school in Hamburg (SFSH) and filmmaking at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg.
During her studies, she worked in German television and cinema, including a crime series in which she played a lead role for two years.
Her thesis film Cherry Juice, a no-budget feature, toured international festivals and was later distributed in Italy, winning multiple awards. Now based in Paris, Mersiha is writing her second feature film, Black Black Lake. She also composes music and paints in oils.
